April 23rd, 2024 – The virtual art world took a creative leap forward with the artist-led tour of /SPATIAL, a special exhibition in Decentraland curated by Bay Backner and Damir Firšt. This exhibition showcases innovative 3D installations by pioneering artists, merging augmented reality (AR) and spatial computing within Decentraland’s digital landscape. Attendees explored interactive artworks, high-polygon 3D models, and installations that bridge virtual and physical spaces through QR codes.

Throughout the tour, Backner and First, working in immersive art and digital innovation, discussed the challenges and opportunities of curating digital art in virtual spaces. They shared perspectives on the impact of AR and VR on public engagement and highlighted the transformative potential of these immersive technologies. The tour featured reinterpretations of Lucio Fontana’s Manifesto Blanco by 14 artists, explorations in sound integration, and the creative use of glitch art and sonification to reimagine classic forms.

/SPATIAL exhibit is open in Decentraland and includes an IRL tech and art meetup at Art Contemporary Gallery in Copenhagen. By uniting the digital and physical realms, /SPATIAL offers a groundbreaking way for audiences to experience art through immersive, multi-sensory formats.
